Ruskin Bond (born May 19, 1934) is an Indian author of British descent. He is considered one of India's most beloved writers, known for his simple yet profound stories set in the Indian Himalayas.

Early Life

Born in Kasauli, Punjab (now in Himachal Pradesh), to Aubrey Bond and Edith Clarke, Ruskin spent his early years in various hill stations. His parents separated when he was young, and he was raised primarily in boarding schools.

Career

Early Writing

Bond wrote his first novel, The Room on the Roof, when he was 17, for which he received the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize in 1957. This semi-autobiographical novel about an Anglo-Indian boy remains one of his most celebrated works.

Prolific Career

Over his seven-decade career, Bond has written over 500 short stories, essays, and novels. His works often feature the beauty of the Himalayas, childhood adventures, and human relationships.
