The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a conservative political party in India, recognized as one of the two major Indian political parties alongside the Indian National Congress. Formed on April 6, 1980, the BJP emerged from the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Since 2014, it has been the ruling political party in India, with Narendra Modi serving as the incumbent prime minister.

The BJP is considered right-wing to far-right on the political spectrum and maintains close ideological and organizational ties with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The party's core ideology is Hindutva, a Hindu nationalist philosophy. As of January 2024, the BJP is the largest political party in India based on its representation in both the parliament and state legislatures.
