The Prime Minister of India is the head of government of the Republic of India. Executive authority is vested in the Prime Minister and their chosen Council of Ministers, even though the President of India is the nominal head of the executive. The Prime Minister controls the selection and dismissal of members of the Union Council of Ministers and the allocation of portfolios within the government.

Narendra Modi has served as Prime Minister since 2014. The position was established in 1947 upon India's independence.
